The 16th Europe Forum was held in Riga, Latvia on 12-13 May 2016 and was attended by chairmen and board members of 16 Hong Kong Business Associations from across Europe. This year’s Europe Forum was hosted by the Baltic Hong Kong Trade Association. Mr. Sergejs Potapkins, Board Chairman of the Baltic Hong Kong Trade Association opened the Forum by delivering a welcome remarks to all participants. The Forum discussion was then chaired by Dr. Esther Nägeli, President of the Swiss-Hong Kong Business Association. Mr. Stephen Wong, Regional Director of Europe of the Hong Kong Trade Development Council, updated the members on the latest economic development in Hong Kong and the Chinese mainland, especially the business opportunities brought about by the “One Belt, One Road” initiative. He emphasised that Hong Kong was well placed to help companies seize new opportunities and manage any related investment projects and business activities along the Belt and Road. With Hong Kong’s availability of excellent services supports, including but not limited to financial, professional, infrastructure development, transportation services and information technology services, Hong Kong would be the superconnector in linking up project owners and potential investors. Mr. Wong also highlighted the upcoming HKTDC activities and promotions that could help European companies with a special interest in mainland China and Asia. Members were then invited to highlight major initiatives and activity plans for 2016/2017and how they made use of the activities to explore the Asian markets, especially on how to capitalise the opportunities brought by One Belt One Road initiatives via Hong Kong platform. The Europe Forum was concluded successfully by a luncheon sponsored by Expo Bank, and the Association leaders would meet again at the annual Hong Kong Forum in November.
