Report on NUSHKBA Annual Caucus 9:00 AM – 3:00 PM, Thursday, September 19, 2019 Jones Lang LaSelle Office, Los Angeles The 2019 NUSHKBA Annual Caucus was held from 9:00 am to 3:00 pm in Los Angeles on September 19, 2019 to coincide with TATHK. 35 board members and members from 12 associations in North America plus RDA and DMW attended. President of NUSHKBA and HKBAM Mark Staublin opened the Caucus and made welcome remarks. RDA updated the members on Hong Kong current business environment and also opportunities in the GBA – he encouraged members to attend and also help recruit more members to the HK Forum. All 12 chapter heads approved the previous board meeting minutes and financial report. Each of the chapter head updated his/her activities for the past year and highlighted their future plans. All chapter heads planned to attend the HK Forum and would try to recruit more members to join. Mark Staublin asked all members to break into three separate groups to discuss the following subjects: next generation membership; shadowing program and generating funding. The groups then shared their ideas and experiences with a common goal of offering better programs leading to more memberships. US members expressed their preference to hold the caucus every year in different physical locations – meeting face-to-face every year with TDC sponsorship was more desirable than meeting every other year. DMW explained that TDC funding applicable to this matter was limited and was not able to provide annual sponsorship for both US and Canada caucuses. DMW advised members to seek sponsorships from TDC, ETO, InvestHK and/or TB for promotional events in order to generate more funding. He cited an example in which ETONY has sponsored HKBAM Annual Christmas Reception. Members reconvened at 2:00 pm after lunch. Invited by HKBA Nevada, guest speaker Dr. Bill Imada of IW Group made a presentation on Generation Z and the Millennial, and how they were different from Generation X and Baby Boomers. The presentation was very useful for members in recruiting new generation memberships. Alexandria Sham, former head of HKBA Canada, shared her experience in organizing fund-raising events. Raymond Cheng, VP of HKBA Southern California also shared his experience in raising funds and procedures on nominating HUSHKBA officers. The nomination of 2020 NUSHKBA officers was postponed to December when all chapter heads meet at HK Forum. Due to job relocation, the current NUSHKBA Secretary Homing Tam was not able to continue his duty as Secretary until December 31, 2019. Fion Chong, President HKBA Nevada volunteered to take up the post – all chapter heads approved. The Caucus was adjourned at 3:00 pm.
