1st South East Asia Regional Forum 2004
Report

 Background

Advocated by the Immediate Past Chairman of Hong Kong Business Association, Vietnam (HKBAV) during 2003 Hong Kong Forum, the first Southeast Asia Regional Forum (SEARF) was held on 27 February 2004 in Ho Chi Minh City of Vietnam to coincide with HKBAV's Annual Gala Dinner Party.

Participants

It was successfully held amid the bird flu fear with a total of 36 participants (13 from Vietnam, 6 from Thailand and 5 from Singapore). Madam Gao De Ke, Consul General, People's Republic of China in Ho Chi Minh also attended as a token of support.

Forum and Delegates' Programmes

Besides the forum (forum programme), a roundtable discussion was also organised on 28 February to let interested members understand more about the various aspects of doing business in Vietnam with respect to garment, furniture, property development and legal sectors. Some members chose to join alternative programmes such as "golf" fun or city tour. For snapshots of the forum, please check out the photo gallery.

Results and Responses

Participating members found this first joint initiative a very worthwhile one as it does provide a good opportunity to understand more of Vietnam's law, practices and business opportunities through presentations, roundtable discussion and experience sharing. It also helped promote and strengthen cross cooperation and exchange among regional associations and members (comments from participants). All would like to see the forum continued on an annual and rotational basis.
