Hong Kong Forum 2009

The 9th Hong Kong Forum was attended by more than 360 Federation associates from 19 countries.

Prior to the main Hong Kong Forum programme was a side visit to Fujian from 27 – 29 Oct. Delegates appreciated the opportunity to update themselves on the market potential of Fujian and its link with Hong Kong.

Under the recent global financial turmoil, this year’s forum gave the perfect opportunity to invite speakers from the financial sector. The addresses by John Tsang (Financial Secretary), Professor K C Chan (Secretary for Financial Services and the Treasury) as well as Benjamin Hung (Executive Director and CEO of Standard Chartered Bank) restated Hong Kong’s status as a global financial centre. The keynote address by CY Leung (Convenor of the Executive Council) on the political implications of income distribution in Hong Kong was also very inspiring.

Participants of the concurrent thematic workshops found the invalvable advice perfect for both new business start-ups or expanding businesses in Hong Kong and the mainland.

Over 120 companies participated in the "Six-Minute Business Dating" event, half from Hong Kong and half from Federation associates.

The Federation Awards Presentation Ceremony gave due recognition to associations as well as member associates for their outstanding efforts in raising the profile of Hong Kong and capitalizing on Hong Kong for business expansion.

An election of Federation Officers for session 2008-2010 was held & new office holders were elected.

The event rounded off with a festive farewell dinner which was festooned in Halloween décor, with surprise from the Federation associates participating at the Talent Show.

Many participants complimented that the 9th Hong Kong Forum was the best they had ever attended, and all promised that they would spread the Hong Kong message back home.
