Building friendship across the ocean

The Hong Kong Association of Southern California led a delegation of 120 sheriffs and professional support staff under the Los Angeles Sheriffs Department Cultural Exchange Program to Sydney on Nov 17, 2006 and was received by the Immediate Past President of Hong Kong Australia Business Association (HKABA), Mr. Stephen Liu, who is also the Immediate Past Hon. Secretary of the Federation. Not only did Mr. Liu give a welcome speech to the delegation at the Cocktail Party, he also solicited support from the Qantas Airlines through the help of the Vice Chairman of NSW Chapter of HKABA, Mr. Peter Sinn, who is the Manager of Asian Routes, Qantas. As a result, each of the delegates received a very nice Australian icon pin from Qantas Airlines as a souvenir.

The Mayor of Auburn, a local Council and a local Councilor were also present at the party. There were plenty of opportunities to mingle and to chat with people from different walks of life. “In the spirit of the worldwide network of the Federation, that was the least I could do. I am happy to know that they had a wonderful time in Australia,” said Mr. Liu.
